Individuals who have experienced prior sexual victimization are more likely to end up in the criminal legal system. In addition, previous victims are more likely to be sexually victimized during a period of incarceration where they have little access to resources that can help them heal from this trauma. Understanding the intersections of sexual victimization and interactions with the criminal justice system is critical for service providers who work with this population. This training will provide information on complex trauma; how it impacts the brain and behavior, and how trauma is compounded during incarceration. Lastly, we will discuss the importance of being trauma-responsive to this population in our interactions and service delivery models.
