The #metoo movement is a testament to the reality and reach of sexual violence in our communities. Thank you to those who are participating in solidarity and showing that no one is alone in this.

For survivors who cannot post “me too,” your sexual trauma and silence are valid. “Me too” is the tip of the iceberg and a reminder to support survivors, hold perpetrators accountable, and start by believing every day.

Julie Bindel is a journalist, writer, broadcaster and researcher. She has been active in the global campaign to end violence towards women and children since 1979 and has written extensively on rape, domestic violence, sexually motivated murder, prostitution and trafficking, child sexual exploitation, stalking, and the rise of religious fundamentalism and its harm to women and girls.

Julie’s forthcoming book, is entitled, The Pimping of Prostitution: Abolishing the Sex Work Myth, is a detailed examination of the global ‘sex workers’ rights’ movement and how the ‘happy hooker’ narrative has come to shape our perceptions - including many women involved in prostitution - of what is misleadingly named as ‘the oldest profession’. In it, she examines the situation in the UK, Netherlands, the Nordic region, Germany, South Africa, East Africa, North America, South America, France, New Zealand and Australia, South Korea, Turkey and India.

Join us for a free author event and get a chance to hear from Julie, ask questions and pick up a copy of her newest book.

When the community hears about a sexual assault in the news, it often leaves people feeling afraid, overwhelmed, and with lots of questions. In doing this work, we know that the reality of sexual assault/violence is that it can happen anywhere to anyone. Sexual assault doesn’t discriminate. While we want people to do what they need to in order to feel safe, we know that safety tactics and risk-reduction tips can reinforce victim blaming rather than placing the blame on the perpetrator of sexual violence.

The Rape Crisis Center continues to work throughout the community with youth and adults to increase education and prevention of sexual violence while also providing free and comprehensive crisis, advocacy, and counseling services to anyone impacted by sexual violence. If you have questions, feel triggered, need help, or would like to organize a community forum for discussion, please contact us 24/7 at 210.349.7273.

Come out to support The Rape Crisis Center as Geeks Who Drink host their classic pub quiz! It's going to be a fun event to spread awareness about the Center and raise money to support survivors and end sexual violence.

Check out what the Quizmaster had to say about it:

"Nothing brings a group of quizzers together quite like having a common goal, and tonight [sic] our goal was to raise money for The Rape Crisis Center of San Antonio... this one was by far the craziest, silliest and yet most effective fundraiser I've ever had the pleasure of being a part of... I mean, I always have fun hosting quiz, but this was by far one of the most fun quizzes I've ever hosted, hands down."

Briana Garcia generously donated the funds to purchase 1,000 koozies for us to hand out PRIDE Bigger Than Texas 2017!!! When asked why she chose to donate, Briana said this:

"Why donate to the Rape Crisis Center? Put your money where your mouth is!

I believe actions speak louder than words and investing in the work of non-profits, such as the Rape Crisis Center can assure progress is made. I stand with the Rape Crisis Center and support all services and educational efforts that prevent the perpetuation of an environment conducive to sexual violence.

Thank you RCC staff and volunteers for your kindness, loyalty and commitment to our community."

THANK YOU Briana for your generous donation!
